Here we go chemo, here we go…

Here we go chemo, here we go…
When I walked into 1221 Madison Street, I remembered the last time I did something like this was 7 years ago at Stanford.  Seven years ago, I had entered the world of a chemotherapy patient while conveying the familiar IV of too many card-carrying members everywhere.  Seven years ago, we didn’t have much luck, but this time I am hoping for a better outcome. My dad has been in town for a few days, and he dropped me off raring to go on Monday morning.  After a quick blood test, they wheeled me in, and just a mere 3 hours later, we were done with round 1.  I go back in 8 days.  We do it again. ...

A best friend…

A best friend…
Thank goodness that I clicked onto Facebook yesterday. By doing so I was reminded that my best friend, Matt McCormick had his birthday. We met some 43 years ago, in the first grade. Mrs. Harper was our teacher’s name, and the bond she nurtured in us would only get stronger. We started out getting hit by a car riding double, and man did that ever get us into trouble. We were banned from ever being in the same class again. A very smart move by the administration at hand. We got back together in junior high, and man was that a mistake from way up high. All involved agreed that high school apart would be...

Muhammed Ali…

Muhammed Ali…
It looks like we have a new challenge. The back pain I’ve been having is most likely from a tumor on the bone, which is certainly not a good thing, but it’s not the worst thing in the world either. Worse would have been to have more tumors that have grown larger in the lungs. And that wasn’t the case (there was a little bit of growth in the lungs but no new tumors; back to almost like it used to be on a three month basis). The tumor in the bone needs to be looked at closer to diagnose, so next week I will be doing a bone scan and an MRI to determine its severity and treatment...

Brocation 1…

Brocation 1…
What is a “brocation?” I will define it as when 5 of your best friends come to stay with you and make you feel better for a couple of nights when you are not feeling so good. As I have expressed many times, I am lucky that I have such a great group of friends of which I can draw upon to help me through this cancer fight. I was very emotional this morning as I said goodbye to my friend William who has been with me since last Wednesday (when Jen and Chart left for CA).     Not only has Will been by my side since Wednesday, he really has been there since 1984 when I met him as a Sigma Nu...

My sister Shannon…

My sister Shannon…
We were born exactly 25 months apart to the day, January 12, 1965 and February 12, 1967. Being sick has been hard on everyone, but I think it’s been the hardest on one of my favorite people in the world, my sister, Shannon. She and I are very different. I am the extrovert and she is the introvert. I am cavalier, and Shannon is humble. I have always been the front man and she has always had my back. I often leap into things blindly without thinking through the repercussions, and Shannon is a plodder, a planner, thinks of the consequences.  Together we make a great team. We show our emotions...

It was a good day…

It was a good day…
We made it. Birthday party number 6 is in the books. Two weeks ago, a still 5 year old precious little angel named Charlotte Hope politely pleaded and prayed that I would be able to attend. I wasn’t going to miss this for the world. These last two weeks have been all about that. I made it. It was perfect. And guess what I found? Remember the LP (long playing) record?  Remember it’s little cousin the 45? On iTunes I stumbled upon the first 45 I ever had. “Rock me Gently,” by Andy Kim. I still love this song. No idea why. The lyrics are nasty and make no sense. And lots more good stuff happening...
