20 Minutes…

Chart & Daddy goofing around!

Chart & Daddy goofing around!

What did you do with it today? I took a walk on a glorious day. I did it without oxygen. I had a lot on my mind. I really felt the warm sunshine dig into my shoulders. It made me think of Vitamin D, and that everyone should take it. I made sure I felt each breath. I thought about my cancer, and the fact that I have another scan coming up in 12 days. I cried about that. I thought about how lucky I am that my parents were back at home to take care of me. I cried about that too. I’ve been crying a lot more lately, not sure why. I want to live, I really, really, do. I cried again, but then I thought about Charlotte, and I smiled. I’ve had almost 6 years with her. She knows me. She has concrete memories of me. I used to worry that I would be gone too soon for her to remember anything about me.  That doesn’t worry me any more. And that’s what makes me smile.

Love is like oxygen, you get too much you get too high, not enough and you’re going to die. I’ve got all I need.

Like Daddy…

…Like Daughter.

Let the Goofy Face Games begin!

Uh oh. Charlotte’s taking the lead.

Edvard Munch has got nothin’ on Charlotte!

We’re taking it public!

Chart & Me wrap it all up with pretty pink bows!

Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. I’ve always tried to model myself after the great ones. And you two truly are. I miss those young and innocent days of “scissors Santa and SNAFU” :)

Awesome post Mike…Loved the links from the email! Natalie and Charlotte need to get together soon as it seems our daughters are in the exact same goofball stage. Let’s make DC happen if we don’t meet up on the west coast.

    • Mike Dougherty says:

You got it C Mihm, maybe we can get the girls to do some lobbying with us and knock some sense into that legislative body we call Congress. Go Warriors baby!!

  5. Tracey says:

Love the matching bow headbands! Nothing makes me sappier then seeing a dad playing “dress up” with his little angel. Pure love! Lifting you up and reaching across the miles with an everlasting embrace and pure love. Let me know when you head this way…. remember, you promised! Love to you and your girls.

    • Mike Dougherty says:

Sending my love right back at you, TD. I promise to call next time I’m in town, but only if I’m home for pleasure not business :)

  6. Siobhan says:

Great post Michael! Twenty minutes! What a wonderful lesson. Twenty minutes at a time we march on into the future…however long that may be…but for the NEXT twenty minutes we are PRESENT. (: xoxo to you and yours

Thank you for all of your support, sounds like you are doing great, and remembering to stop and smell the roses along the way!! (bad 70’s song by Mac Davis)

The faces cracked me up! Charlotte sure does take after her Daddy. :) The headbands are the best. Ha! What a gift to breathe in and live each moment. So many people don’t.

I’ll be with you in thought and prayer on scan day, Mike. Give all my best to Jennie, your Mom and Dad, and of course, our special, silly girl.

      Hi Michelle,

You always have the right quote for the right occasion, thanks for your thoughts and prayers on scan day.

Actually, we moved to Central Oregon, but talk to Mom
every day and soon will talk using Skype. She’s getting a webcam from me for Mother’s Day! I’ll give her your love when I call her today!
